Grammy Nominee Masego to Compose Score for Anime Film ‘Mfinda’ (Exclusive)

Grammy-nominated recording artist Masego has signed on to produce the original score for N LITE’s upcoming anime fantasy film Mfinda.
This makes Masego, who is said to be an anime aficionado, the first Black composer to score an anime theatrical film, according to N LITE, a Black-owned media company and anime studio based in the U.S. and Tokyo.

N LITE founder and CEO Christiano Terry shared that Jaden will play the character of Kozo, an ancient spirit warrior who protects humans and spirits of the forest during a time of great conflict in the Kingdom of Kongo.
Jaden is not a stranger to anime, however. He previously voiced the main character in the anime series Neo Yokio for Netflix in 2017.

Cameroonian-American Philadelphia 76ers center and former NBA MVP Joel Embiid has joined the producing team of “Mfinda,” an upcoming anime feature from the Tokyo- and LA-based studio N Lite. Embiid comes on board through his production company Miniature Géant, launched in partnership with LeBron James’ Uninterrupted.
Embiid will also executive produce a companion documentary, “Mfinda: Spirits of the Congo,” which will explore the film’s inspirations and behind-the-scenes production.

N Lite animation studio has unveiled a new partnership with Emmy-winning Japanese anime studio Gonzo K.K. (“Afro Samurai”) and Oscar-winning “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” director Peter Ramsey to produce two animated projects: a noir thriller feature titled “Ripper” and the sci-fi adventure series “Hotaru.”

Anime legends, producer Masao Maruyama and director Gisaburō Sugii, as well as U.S. animation producer and distributor Gkids, have joined global multimedia company N Lite and N Lite Japan to produce “Mfinda,” a first Afro-anime film which will be the subject of an in-depth first look at June’s Annecy Int’l Animation Film Festival.
